New GMC Hummer vs. Old Hummer Models: What’s Changing?

A Comparison of the GMC Hummer and its Older Discontinued Models

With the recent news surrounding the return of the iconic Hummer, many of us are curious on what’s to come. After lying dormant for over ten years, much has changed with the vehicle. At Matador Motors, we go over the main differences between the old Hummer models and the upcoming GMC Hummer EV.

Efficiency Much Greater in the 2022 GMC Hummer EV

The primary difference between older Hummer models and the upcoming GMC Hummer models comes in the fuel source. A large reason why originally Hummer vehicles initially fell was due to the rising demand for fuel efficiency during oil price increases in the mid-to-late 2000s. Back then, many large SUVs posted observed fuel economy ratings of 10-11 Combined MPG. Now, the GMC Hummer EV will depend mainly on electric-powered engines. Matching up against the likes of the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T, the model will possess three electric motors. Aside from its competition, the model could have charging capabilities of up to 100 driving miles in 10 minutes while providing an estimated range of 350 miles at its peak.

Cost Greatly Increasing from Previous 2010 Hummer Models

However, a major downside compared to older models comes in price. For instance, the 2010 Hummer H3 had an original MSRP range of between $33,390 and $41,705. Larger-sized 2009 Hummer H2 models priced between $61,585 and $63,090. Meanwhile, 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 models will cost $112,595. While pricing will decrease in further trim levels in 2022 & 2023, the price may essentially double. While you may be able to receive additional financial support due to its electric nature, it will cost a lot more upfront.
